Tips & FAQ

Straight answers for Emerald Coast homeowners

A few simple habits keep your system running longer. Here’s what we tell our own neighbors in Niceville, Valparaiso, and across Okaloosa County.

How often should I change my air filter?

Check it monthly. Most 1-inch filters need changing every 1–3 months; homes with pets or heavy summer run time should lean toward monthly. Thicker 4–5 inch media filters often last 6–12 months. A clogged filter chokes airflow, raises your power bill, and can freeze the indoor coil.

My AC stopped cooling. What should I check first?

  • Thermostat is set to Cool and below room temperature, with fresh batteries if it uses them.
  • The breaker for the indoor and outdoor units hasn’t tripped. Reset once only; if it trips again, call us.
  • The filter isn’t packed with dust.
  • The outdoor unit is running and clear of grass, leaves, and debris.
  • If you see ice on the lines or indoor coil, turn the system off and fan on, then call.

Still warm air? That’s a no-cool call. We run 24/7 and our trucks carry common parts, so most repairs finish on the first visit.

When should I schedule maintenance?

Twice a year works best here: cooling in spring before the heat arrives, and heating in fall before the first cold snap. Gulf Coast systems run hard most of the year, so a skipped tune-up shows up fast. A maintenance visit is $195, and our maintenance plans include visits and repair savings.

What temperature should I set in summer?

Around 76–78°F when home is a comfortable, efficient range. Avoid big swings; dropping the thermostat 10 degrees doesn’t cool the house faster, it only runs longer.

Why is water around my indoor unit?

Usually a clogged condensate drain. Turn the system off to protect ceilings and floors and give us a call. Drain flushing is part of every maintenance visit.

Repair or replace?

If your system is over 12–15 years old, needs a major part, or your bills keep climbing, replacement may make sense. We show you the numbers for both and let you decide. New systems are sized with a proper Manual J load calculation, not a guess by square footage.

What does a service call cost?

The service fee is $85 per call, and repairs are quoted on-site before any work begins. Plan members save on service fees. See published pricing.
